Dr. Amoako clears hurdle over dual citizenship saga!!

Samuel Amoako, has been cleared of his dual citizenship controversy by the New Patriotic Party National Executive Committee and was Sunday given a rousing welcome when his campaign team took him round the Abuakwa North constituency and introduced him as the Parliamentary candidate in the up-coming general election.
The National Executive Committee ruled on August 14, 2008 that Prof Amoako was eligible to contest the election after successfully going through the primary three months ago and also denouncing his American citizenship.
Based on the ruling, the campaign team, led by the chairman, Kaakyire Akosomo Nyantakyi, took him to the Catholic, Presbyterian and Methodist Churches Sunday to offer thanks to God for His mercies and protection.
A devout Christian and a member of the Methodist church, Prof Amoako was given a rousing welcome when he was introduced to the congregation as the NPP candidate for the 2008 Parliamentary election.
After praying to God to help the NPP candidate to achieve his aim, the Very Rev. Samuel Richard Agyekumhene, called for peace and understanding among the electorate in the December election.
Rev. Otchere Pabi of the Presbyterian Church on his part, assured all the political parties of their preparedness to pray for them at all times. After the church service, Amoako was driven through the principal streets of Kukurantumi, New Tafo, Old Tafo Anyinasin, on a float and ended up at Osiem for a mini rally.
Enthusiastic crowd which lined up the streets, took to the NPP popular 'Kangaroo' dance dubbed, "We are moving forward".
Addressing the rally at Osiem, Prof Amoako appealed for peace in the up-coming election. He reminded NPP supporters of the great task ahead of them and advised them to discard the notion that the party would by all means win the election.
He said what was important was for them to vote massively for him and the flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to clock not less than 80 percent votes. Amoako recalled the ordeal he went through after wining the primary held at Anyinasin some three weeks ago and informed the electorate that the battle had come to an end.
He then appealed to both sides to join hands and go into the election with a common aim of retaining power. He informed them officially that he had denounced his American citizenship, saying, "I am a full-fledged Ghanaian, coming from Kukurantumi" adding, "my parents are all Ghanaians".
The Parliamentary candidate said it was ridiculous that when he took part in the primary in 2004 and lost, nobody raised the issue of dual citizenship.
It will be recalled that after he had won the primary to contest the 2008 Parliamentary election, the defeated candidate and MP for the area, J.B. Danquah Adu, raised an objection to his (Amoako's) eligibility, claiming that he has a dual citizenship status.
Amoako also argued that until he filed his papers with the Electoral commission, the argument raised by J.B. would have no legal basis, referring to a case between the NPP and NDC which went to the Supreme Court for interpretation.
In that case the court ruled that "a cause of action can only accrue to a person challenging the eligibility or qualification of a Parliamentary candidate only when that candidate has been nominated in accordance with the public elections (C1. 15) i.e., when the candidate has filed with the Electoral Commission as a nominee or candidate".
