NPP Presidential Candidate for the December elections, Nana Akufo-Addo continues to win the hearts of the people of the Central Region with his message of hope and inspiration.
Nana Akufo Addo's campaign message centres on education as top priority, with peace and unity, social cohesion and the need to eschew tribal politics as well as politics of insults, featuring prominently in the message when he took his campaign tour to the Abura-Asebu Kwamankese, Assin south and Assin north constituencies yesterday.
The NPP presidential candidate and his entourage were given a rousing welcome by thousands of people who came out to listen to his message.
Views sampled among the people pointed out the fact that his message had touched the hearts of majority of the electorate who largely considered him as the best person to take over the management of the country after the exit of President Kufuor in January 2009.
Indeed, wherever he touched on any of the core issues in his campaign message, his presentation was punctuated with rapturous cheers from the massive crowd, giving indication of their huge endorsement of Nana's message.
The issue that has perhaps received the most endorsement from the people is the need not to allow ethnic considerations to influence their decision, regarding whom to vote for in the December elections.
The NDC Presidential candidate, J.E.A Mills, who is also on a tour of his home region (Central) has been playing the ethnic card in his desperate attempt to win the support of the people.
He and his campaign team have been urging the people to give him the necessary support because he is from the region. But all indications point to the fact that playing the ethnic card will not work any magic for the NDC’s twice defeated Presidential candidate.
The same tactics failed to work for him in the 2000 elections. "We Fantes do not vote on ethnic lines. We look at the competence of the people seeking our mandate as well as the records of the parties they represent. Mills was the Vice President in the NDC government but he and his group did not do anything appreciable for the Central Region.
He therefore, cannot expect us to vote for him just because he is from the region. We want leaders who can deliver", Essuman Dadzie, a teacher, told The Statesman at Abakrampa.
Richard Abraham, an undergraduate student at the University of Cape Coast, also added, "I am not a fanatic of any political party but listening to both Mills and Nana, I’ve been so much touched by Nana’s message and I think he stands tall among all the people seeking to lead the nation after President Kufuor".
Addressing the people at separate rallies, Nana stated that he was not taking power to achieve his parochial interests nor to enrich himself as others had done in the past.
He explained that the motivation behind his desire to ascend the Presidency was to use his knowledge and political experience to help improve the life of the ordinary people. "For the over 30years that I have been at the forefront of active politics in the nation, I have always stood by the masses and I stand on this platform to assure you that when I become the next President your interests and concerns will always remain my major pre-occupation", Nana stated to a thunderous uproar at Abura Dunkwa in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District.
Cataloguing some of the achievements of the NPP government, he called on the people to renew the NPP’s mandate to ensure a progressive continuity in the development of the nation.
"We have been faithful to the nation; we have delivered on our promise, and so you should also remain faithful to us and stay behind us to ensure that our aspiration of building a prosperous nation becomes a reality", he stressed.
Nana Akufo Addo takes his campaign tour to the Upper Denkyira East and West constituencies, where he is expected to address rallies and pay courtesy calls on some Chiefs in a number of communities, including Ayenifum, Domenase, Kyekyere and Boabeng.
