Profile of Otiko Afisah Chrissie Djaba, NPP parliamentary candidate for Bole/Bamboi

 

 

     Madam Otiko Afisah Chrissie Djaba was born on January 21 1962 to Mr. Henry Kwadwo Djaba and Mad. Roseline Shiata Mumuni Bawah at Bole in the northern region of Ghana.

She had her early education at Damongo and later in Tamale where her mother was then teaching. She continued to Tamale secondary school from 1973 to 1978 for her GCE O level. She obtained her sixth form education at Rye St Anthony Girl’s School (Headington Oxford- U.K) from 1978 to 1980. After sixth form, she took a diploma course in secretariat studies at  Queen’s Secretarial College ( London , U.K), from Oct 1980 to Oct 1981, and followed that with a certificate in marketing/freight forwarding ring at the Institute of Marketing ( London- U.K), from 1981 to 1983.

From 1993 to 1994, Otiko entered Enfield College (London - U.K), and was awarded a Certificate in Information Technology- Women in I.T NVQ II.

Her quest for education was to lead her to enroll at the Grimsby College (London - U.K), from 1994 to 1996, for a Diploma in Systems Analysis- Computer Sciences.

Presently Otiko is a student of the University of Development Studies, studying towards a bachelor’s degree in Arts. She has been a student at UDS since 2005

    Otiko Afisah held a number of positions at school and in civil society. Some of the positions held are enumerated below:

  • Member of Aviation Centre Keep fit 2007 to date.
  • Member of Ghana NGO Coalition since 2005.
  • Member of Progressive Ladies Keep fit club Tamale 1992.
  • Member; Full Gospel Women’s International,1975 to 1978.
  • Peer educator for Good News Club (Presbyterian Church- Tamale), 1975 to 1978.
  • Scripture Union Treasurer ( Tamale Secondary  School ), 1975 to 1977.
  • Member of Youth Drama group and choir of Presby church Tamale 1970-73.

 

                              Work experience:

  • Founder and Chief Executive Officer 2002 of Miidan Educational Trust (NGO).
  • Consultant on the Rights of Children    since 2003.
  • Producer/Director of Kokrokoo (An innovative children’s nation-wide Television Programme)    from 1998 to 2002.
  • A Co-Director of Miidan Company Ltd. (Tamale, N/R- Ghana) - Importers and Contractors (1987 to 1992 ).
  • Private Secretary to the Branch Manager Bank for Housing and Construction – Tamale Branch (1984 to 1992).
  • Tele-sales Officer of Frozen Food Ltd. London, U.K, (1982 to 1983).
  • Sole Proprietor of Young Uns Enterprise (1987 to 1992). 

 

 

                                PROFESSIONAL AND OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS:

 

  • Personally funding the education of several children/youth at secondary and tertiary levels of their education.
  • Establishment of women’s income generating groups in Bole/Bamboi.
  • Creator of the popular children’s television programme, KOKROKOO.
  • Founder of Miidan Productions 1998 and Miidan Educational Trust (2002).
  • Concept originator of Rights of Children’s Project in Ghana.
  • Relocation of offices from Accra to Tumu in 2004.
  • Extension of branches of Miidan Educational Trust from Tumu to Wa and Bole in the Upper West and Northern Regions of Ghana.
  • Establishment of 58 Rights of Children’s Clubs in the Sissala Districts, 40 in the Wa Districts and 168 in the Bole/Bamboi Constituency with a membership of  over 10,000 children/youth .
  • Training of children/youth as advocates on the rights of children on television.
  • The first person to take rural and deprived children on a visit to the President of Ghana and Parliament to interact and present the situation of  children in the Sissala Districts.
  • Consultant (at the castle) Office of the Vice President of to facilitate The Campaign for Greater Discipline.
  • Creator of Whatzup? Let’s Talk TV Programme to discuss issues of children/youth in the Sissala Districts.
  • The first person to introduce the Sissali dialect on GTV nationwide.
  • Creation of Voices of Children for radio (Radio Upper West).
  • Training and sending children from very remote and rural communities in the Sissala Districts to participate in various fora on media and child participation in Australia, Geneva and Mali.
  • Initiator and facilitator of the establishment of the first ever radio station in Tumu.
  • Creator/producer/director & hostess of Movers and Shapers television show on GTV
  • Unifier of factions and a propensity for organizing people, activities, events and programs.

 

                                                   Plans in the pipeline:

  • Preparation for the establishment of the Henry Djaba Educational Fund for brilliant and needy pupils/students.
  • Preparations for the establishment of John Ewuntomah Bawah Disaster Support Unit of Miidan.
  • Preparing to establish helpline for the protection of children/youth.
  • Plans in the development stage to establish radio station in Bole.
  • Plans in development stage to establish Jalubi Shiata Skills Development Training Center in Bole.

 

 

 

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

 

·      Special and passionate affection/devotion/commitment to and for children and youth especially those in deprived and rural communities and the disadvantaged

·      Staunch believer and advocate for bridging the gap between the rural and urban communities, the poor and the rich and the disadvantaged.

·      Creating programs to create equal opportunities for all children/youth

·      Designer of programs to build the self esteem, ability to participate more meaningfully and effectively of especially, children, youth and rural adults

·      Supervision of editing of TV programmes

·      Enabling rural people to envision a better portrait of themselves and how to take action for themselves to achieve that vision

·      Developer of programs to create wealth and skills development for rural folks   

·        Writing scripts,  , newspaper articles, stories, songs and poems

·        Swimming

·      Jogging

·      Creation of concepts for media expression (T.V, radio, print media and internet)

·      Interacting and socializing with people

·      Acting plays

 

  Mad. Otiko Afisah Chrissie Djaba will like to take this opportunity to appeal to all NPP members and chapters in the USA to help her win the seat which for all the years in the fourth republic has been won by the opposition. She will welcome every piece of advise and contribution in cash and kind to see that this seat goes to the NPP.

She will also like any not for profit organization that is women and children centered to contact her so that together life of women and children in Ghana and in the northern areas of Ghana in particular could be uplifted.
